This dynamic look at Nordic design and craft aims to explain how Norwegian and northern European creativity is bound by a new folk language, working towards a redefinition of craft today and a reinterpretation of design for tomorrow.
I was asked to make a new design for the exhibition, based in the traditional ornamental folklore that I am so facinated by. The resault was a group of three pieces with a tulip pattern. Inspiration was drawn both from the traditional folklore of Norway as well as treasured motifs from Turkish pottery during the 17th Century.
In addition three bowls and a cup with a white achantus pattern was on display. It was placed in a cupboard made by Piet Hein Eek, together with other ceramic works. I wouldn’t mind taking that cupboard home with me at all ...
The exhibition A World of Folk will be curated by Paris-based international trend forecaster, exhibit maker and Design Academy Eindhoven Chairwoman Li Edelkoort, as part of Stavanger2008’s programme of activities during the city’s year as European Capital of Culture.

Ved å arbeida i nær kontakt med tradisjonsmateriale, utviklar eg vidare kunnskapen eg fekk frå Ellen Kjærgaard, Césàr Fariña og Hege Stenseng på Pottemakeriet ved Norsk Folkemuseum i Oslo.
Bakgrunnen min som etnolog er også til både glede og nytte i arbeidet.
