Throughout the times ships have brought new cargo and knowledge from place to place. What are we bringing out to the rest of the world? And what arrive here brought from people and cultures far away?
In the middle of April 2008, near the Gramstad pond, on the way toward Dalsnuten, a 10m long overturned boat hull made from living willow shoots appears. The sculpture will get rooted, and will become green and dense in the summer, and airy and leafless in the winter. Here nature hikers will find an exciting resting place, and perhaps, if they keep their eyes wide open, discover hidden treasures also.
We hope that the thoughts and dreams of the over one hundred young students from the Aspervika and Hana primary schools who participated in this project by making both ceramics for the cargo and lacing of the willow shoots, will become apparent to all visitors.
The Gramstad Boat is to be a place where the new Sandnes inhabitants can show us their view of the world and a place where new experiences, both physical and spiritual, can happen.
This project is a joint development with Birgit Østergaard-Jensen and PileByg AS, and it is part of the Stavanger2008 – European Capital of Culture program.
Opening on April 27 2008, 12.00 by the mayor of Sandnes municipality. All are welcome.
